Interview Tips

Now that you have landed an interview, it’s time to get prepared. As an organized job seeker, you will definitely want to be prepared for the interview, and the following pointers can help.

  • Know the exact address and time of the interview. Get the manager’s full name and title.
  • Ask about parking availability before you leave and give yourself plenty of time to get there on time.
  • Research the company by visiting their website to learn about their business.
  • Put together a list of questions that you will ask during the interview.
  • Organize the night before. Your interview clothing, briefcase and portfolio should all be prepared. Get a good night's rest.
  • Look your professional best. Wear your best conservative business attire.
  • Bring several copies of your resume and a list of references.
  • Re-read the job description before the interview.

Some tips for the interview:

  • Arrive a few minutes early.
  • Greet the interviewing manager with a firm handshake and an enthusiastic smile.
  • Wait until you're offered a chair before sitting. Sit up straight and look interested at all times.
  • Listen carefully and respond succinctly and articulately.
  • Make eye contact while speaking with the hiring manager.
  • Early in the meeting, get the interviewer to describe the job and the duties to you so you can focus your responses on your background, skills and accomplishments that relate to the position.
  • Be sincere and truthful.
  • Ask pertinent questions about the position and the company. Remember, you are interviewing the company as well as being interviewed.
